Congrats to the " People's Champion" Nolan Smith on being hired as a special assistant for Duke Basketball by Coach K. I have followed Nolan Smith since he was playing local games for Oak Hill against my high school through him helping Duke win a national championship in 2010 and leaving Duke as a fan favorite. Many fans have always wanted Nolan back on the bench as a Duke coach and now he is!
Nolan will bring a lot to the Duke staff as a national champion and an amazing personality! Go Duke!

I'm just now getting back my voice from this past weekend... We had court side seats for the Duke vs. Uva game this past Saturday night. And well... What.A.Game! This was a huge win and boost for the Duke Basketball team. Below is a video I shot of the last few seconds of the game when Grayson hits the buzzer beater! It was a tough loss for UVA and a great win for DUKE. It was easily one of the top 2 games I have have been to. It was also cool to see Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones in Cameron for the game as well. Below are a few more images from the game.. Duke has knocked off back to back ranked teams in Louisville and UVA. They now head 8 miles down Tobacco Road to play #5 ranked UNC in what is the biggest rivalry in all sports. Here's to hoping Duke keeps on winning!
GO DUKE! This song goes out to all the Duke fans in panic mode (link below)... "Step back from the ledge my friend"... It has been way too long since I have updated this blog... so here we go.. I was able to make 5 games this season...so far. They were Siena, Bryant, Yale, Buffalo, and Long Beach State. With this crazy ACC season, I wished that the tourney was in Greensboro but it's not. The ACC Tourney in DC this year looks to be an epic one with the way the ACC regular season has played out so far. Step back from the ledge Duke fans! Yes Duke has 6 losses now, yes Duke will fall out of the top 25, and yes Duke is fighting to make the NCAA Tourney! But this is where we will see who are the "true Duke" fans. Do you really bleed Duke blue? Scanning the message boards I have seen a lot of "armchair quarterback" coaches thinking they have all the answers. After seeing some of the Duke fan complaints (look if you were not even alive during the Laettner shot, then yeah... you are young... and yeah your opinion doesn't carry much weight lol) I decided to write the following article below. Link below will take you to the article at Duke Report. Look this team has heart! They will not give up! And this Duke fan will support them no matter where the roller coaster takes us! Maybe some of the Duke fans (that are in worry mode) need hands laid upon them lol... Duke lost 4 of their starters last year and three went in the 1st round of the NBA Draft. So yes I see this as a rebuilding year. But hey... the future is very bright! Grayson Allen has been an amazing player this season for Duke. He has become one of my favorite Duke players. He is a very likable guy. He was a big part of the reason Duke came from behind to beat Wisconsin in the national championship last season. Something tells me Grayson is going to help Duke hold up even more trophies during his time at Duke. We joked about that after the Yale game earlier this season. You can see that interview link below. Duke has 10 games left in the regular season. Here's to hoping Amile Jefferson is back soon and Duke can right the ship. We as Duke fans have a lot to be thankful for. GO DUKE! Anybody that actually read this entire blog post ...here's a couple bonus videos I shot in slow motion. The 1st video is of the Duke Basketball players running out on Coach K court from an earlier game this season (link below). *** Turn the volume all the way down! The loudness of Cameron Indoor doesn't work well with slo-motion on the iphone lol! 2nd video (link below) is of the Duke players giving the Cameron Crazies high fives after a Duke game in Cameron. Again turn the volume down.
Picture above from Duke Blue Planet. @DukeBluePlanet Today, Friday the 13th Duke opens the college basketball season against Siena at 7pm. They will play back to back games with a game against Bryant on Saturday at 8pm. The Duke Football team will also be playing Pittsburgh on Saturday at 12:00. Follow Duke Report on Twitter @DukeReport as I will be sending out tweets (with pictures) from the game Friday as I will be hanging out with the Cameron Crazies in the student section. Saturday we will give you a more inside look into the Bryant game with interviews from the players and quotes from Coach K. It's a great time to be a Duke basketball fan! Duke is coming off last season as the 2015 national champions and has a team this year (although young) with the potential to go deep into March Madness. Throw in Harry Giles #1 recruit picking Duke last Friday to give Duke the #1 recruiting class... and Duke is on top of the college basketball mountain. Here's to a great weekend of Duke Basketball and Duke Football! Below is (I know it's late) a recap of my CTC experience. CTC again was a great experience. It is a great event for fans of all ages. Below is some pics from my experience at 2015 CTC. The team poster was unveiled on the court. This ranks in the top 5 of Duke posters I like. Duke fans have to like the theme "TOGETHER"... With a young Duke team this year... the players ability to work "TOGETHER" will determine how far they go in March! You know I had to stop by the 2015 National Championship trophy in the Duke Basketball museum while at CTC! Along with the regular outdoor activities at CTC, Duke also offered fans the opportunity to take a photo opportunity of cutting down the nets. I was told the scissors were the same ones from the Final Four Duke used to cut the nets. Once again CTC had graphics being displayed on the court. But as we all know... the highlight of CTC was seeing the 2015 National Championship banner unveiled!
Do you want the ultimate CTC fan experience? Need to know where to go, where to eat?...What to do? Check out these articles below as a start to a fun weekend at Duke. Where should Duke fans go eat? Check this article out. Did we miss a Duke fan friendly restaurant? Leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter @Skeelow22 and let me know! What else is there to do at Duke besides CTC? Check this article out. Enjoy your time at CTC this weekend! If you see me, stop and say hello! GO DUKE!
CTC is just about a week and half away! CTC is the ultimate Duke fan experience! Go check out my latest article at Duke Report (link below) on A Look at Countdown to Craziness. I also recently caught up with Cameron Crazy Shaker (or blue man) to get his thoughts on the 2015 Duke Basketball national championship, current Duke Football season, and upcoming Duke Basketball season. You can read that article at Duke Report (link below). Coach K is the best in the game at using role players to go along with one-and-done players to win championships. The 2015 national championship is the perfect example. With that said... when do you think Duke Basketball will retire another jersey? Go check out my recent article for Duke Report (link below) and give us your thoughts. The question of jersey retirement has been an ongoing conversation on many sports message boards. I was stoked to see Duke Basketball great Gene Banks give his input on FaceBook about my article! Check back here and at Duke Report next week as I will give you a play-by-play on how to have the ultimate fan experience at CTC! Until then... GO DUKE!
Alright, alright, alright! It's almost time for the start of the 2015-2016 Duke Basketball Season! Duke Basketball will kick off the start of the season with Countdown to Craziness on Saturday October 17th. Check back here and at Duke Report as I have some other cool articles coming out in the near future. The Grayson Allen Effect... Well, it wasn't that long ago (December 2013) I was on a short vacation in Myrtle Beach when I got word that then Duke commit Grayson Allen was going to be playing at the Myrtle Beach Ball Classic basketball tournament. I decided to go watch one of his games. He helped his team pull out the win dropping 30 points against Moeller High School that night. I caught up with him after the game and did a short interview (link below). I could tell from talking with Grayson that he was very excited to become a Blue Devil. Fast forward 16 months later and I'm in the locker room at Lucas Oil Stadium just after Duke won its 5th national championship. Grayson Allen helped spark a comeback for Duke over Wisconsin with 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench. In the locker room, Grayson was swarmed by the media. Below is a short video I shot of Grayson talking to the media after Duke won its 5th national championship. Grayson is a perfect example of a guy who waited for his turn. When he was needed the most... he delivered!
Grayson was a part of the #1 recruiting class that included stars Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor, and Justise Winslow. For the 2014-2015 season Grayson averaged 9.2 minutes and 4.4 points. When Duke first played Wisconsin back in December, Grayson didn't log any minutes of play. Fast forward to April... Duke playing Wisconsin in the national championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium with 13 minutes left in the game and Duke down 9 points. Okafor and Winslow are in foul trouble with 3 fouls each. It looked as if Duke was on its way to losing the game. The time came for Grayson Allen to deliver. And deliver is what he did! Whether it be the 3 pointer, the diving out of bounds play, the layup, or the foul he drawed to sink the free throws... Allen delivered! Grayson helped spark a comeback by the Blue Devils to help Coach K and Duke win a 5th national championship. In the locker room Grayson talked about how Coach K told him to stay ready for this year. Grayson being ready paid off big time for Duke. This made for a great sports story and an even better life lesson. That lesson is always be ready... you never know when your time will come... and it just might happen on the biggest stage there is! We are now just a couple months away from the start of the 2015-2016 Duke Basketball Season. I think its safe to say everybody will know who Grayson Allen is when he steps on the court! Head over to the Duke Report Facebook page (link below) and check out some pics I took this past Tuesday while taking a trip to Duke campus. A lot of work/improvements begin done at Wallace Wade, Cameron Indoor Stadium, and the Duke Chapel. College football and basketball season will be here before we know it! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
It's always good to run into the People's Champ Nolan Smith. I ran into Nolan on 9th Street as I was leaving Duke. Thanks Nolan for helping bring Duke championship #4! Stats don't lie! Check out the tweet from @DukeBluePlanet below. Duke at the top of March Madness had a bigger impact than Lebron James in the NBA Finals! The Duke Effect! |
