It's that time of year again where conference tourneys are happening and Selection Sunday for the big dance is just a few days away!  I pick up the local news paper today and what do I see?   An article dissing Duke.  Things like this used to get to me but today I looked at it and laughed.  These next few weeks you will see the hate towards Duke flow big time with many fans.   You will also see many Duke fans arguing and burning their time and energy trying to persuade others why Duke is the best.  Me....I don't fit into either of those categories.   Back in the day I used to be one of those that defended Duke and tried to persuade others why Duke is Duke and why Duke is the best!  But with time comes wisdom my friends.   And now I can sit back and and appreciate both sides (love and hate) of the coin on Duke.  Think about it for a moment.  Isn't life just a dance of the opposites?  Life and death...heat and cold....light and dark...night and day...love and hate.  To me Duke is Duke.  No need to prove that.  I think 4 National Championships, 10 of the last 14 ACC Tournaments, and the winningest coach of all time can prove my point.  But why would anybody want to argue with fans who hate Duke.  I won't.  Why not?  I'm just amazed by the love and hate relationships people have toward Duke.  Love and hate are on opposite ends of the coin but in the end whether you love em or hate em...your time and energy is being spent on Duke and for that we are thankful!  :)   It is when people stop talking about Duke in a love or hate way is when I will start to worry.  But for now and the upcoming future there are no worries of that.   Think about it.  There is a reason Duke basketball games is on ESPN more than other colleges and more than the Lakers!  A rule I learned a long time ago is... it is pointless trying to spend your time persuading others to see your way.  Everybody has their ways, beliefs and likes as it should be.  So why waste your time arguing and persuading others on your ways?  It is when you can sit back and see the chaos as it is that you will be able to look at it from a detached point of view and appreciate it without getting yourself worked up.  My friends this applies to a lot more than just sports!  It can go with politics, and many other discussions in life that people get so stressed out on.  So as the tourney games start up and I hear the haters say things like "Duke gets all the calls" or "I can't stand Duke"....it is then I will look at them and smile...because like it or not you and your time and energy are a part of the reason Duke is Duke and Duke is the face of college basketball!
