Duke Football coach Mike Elko talked to the Cameron Crazies at halftime of the Duke vs Wake Forest basketball game.  He briefly talked about how he has been impressed with the Cameron Crazies energy at Duke Basketball games.   He then called on the Cameron Crazies to bring that same energy to Wallace Wade stadium this fall for Duke Football games.   Coach Elko stated they have already started to make changes with one being moving the student section from behind the endzone to behind the visitors bench to give the students a better experience.

Duke Football will have its spring game at Wallace Wade stadium April 16th at 6:00 PM.

I myself and am excited about the direction Duke Football seems to be heading toward.   Hope to see some of you out at the spring game.

Oh yeah... seems like Coach Elko is solid at the freethrow line as he made his attempt in Cameron at halftime to benefit a charity.

Duke with the epic win over Wake Forest in the last few seconds!

Another home game for Duke and another down to the wire game for this Duke team in Cameron Indoor Stadium.   Duke  lead by as much as 19 points (at the 14:46 mark) in the 2nd half but Wake Forest continued to chip away at the lead.  The game came down to the final seconds as Mark Williams grabbed the rebound and dunked with under a second to go.  See video below.
Duke Crazy Finish over Wake Forest
This was a win over a 20 win team and should hopefully build  Duke's resume for the NCAA Tourney.

Fans may have noticed that Coach K wasn't at the team's bench to start the 2nd half.   Jon Scheyer filled in for K coaching the team in the 2nd half.   In the opening statement of the post game press conference Jon Scheyer stated the following...

" Obviously, I’m proud of our team to get that win. It was really unusual circumstances. First and foremost, we were concerned about Coach [Mike Krzyzewski] and his health. Coach is doing better. He got some rest, and he needs some rest, but I’m not going to comment anymore on that. I’m not sure what else, but he is doing better. He’s in a much better place, I think especially the fact that we got that win."

Jon Scheyer also stated the following in the post game  press conference after learning that he would coach the 2nd half in place of Coach K....

"  Our team, we’ve had some pretty unique situations this year already with guys being out and what happened earlier at Wake Forest. We went back at half time and clearly Coach wasn’t himself. He wasn’t right. We just told the team he needs to focus on taking care of him and we need to step up and come out in the second half and do what we need to do. It really became all about our game plan and what we had to do. Our guys were focused, that doesn’t mean there weren’t things that we could’ve done better, but they were locked in and just focused on getting that win for Coach and for our team. It was an important game for us.  ”

Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes stated the following in the post game press conference..

" I want to congratulate Duke on one heck of a win. They have a really good team. They battled hard and I thought Mark Williams was a monster tonight. He was hard to deal to deal with and scored and he rebounded. They found a way to win. That’s the mark of a really good basketball team. I hope Coach K is feeling better. "
Duke is now 22-4 with a 12-3 record in the ACC.   Up next for Duke is a home game against FSU this Saturday  2/19/22 at 6:00 PM on ESPN.  Coach K only has 2 home  games left at Cameron Indoor Stadium. (FSU on 2/19/22 and UNC on 3/5/22.   The last ride for Coach K has 5 regular season games left.   Here's to hoping the team can build on this close win and finish the regular season strong as they get ready for the ACC and NCAA Tournaments.

Ready for the DUKE vs UNC game tomorrow night?   Never been to a Duke vs Unc game?  Got 20 minutes to burn?   If you answered yes to any of the above questions.. go check out my DUKE vs UNC FAN EXPERIENCE VIDEO  (link below)  I shot back at the 2013 Unc at Duke game.   Duke ended up winning that game in what was as always an electric atmosphere at Cameron Indoor Stadium.  With just an iphone and a Sony camera, I recorded my entire experience from interviewing the Cameron Crazies before game to the electric atmosphere in Cameron Indoor Stadium during the game to the Crazies celebrating and burning benches after the Duke win over Unc.  Duke vs Unc is a bucket list item for many fans and there is nothing like going to the Duke Unc game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

It's only December...

It has been way too long since I have updated this blog.  As always go to DukeReport.com for your latest updates on all things Duke basketball and Duke football.

Hey...  It's only December...   Let that sink in Duke fans.   Duke is nowhere near its full potential as a team.  Just this past week we are now seeing  Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden back for Duke.  Here's to hoping we see Giles back soon.
Picture
Grayson has been playing with an injured toe as well.  I seen it for myself after the App State game when he walked back out in Cameron somewhat with a limp wearing sandals.

Picture
Frank Jackson has missed a game as well.

My point is... the Duke team you are seeing in December is not the Duke team you will see in March.   And that is a scary thought for oppsing teams.  Duke is currently ranked at #5 with 2 wins over top 25 teams and a closely played game with #3 ranked Kansas.

Luke Kennard and Amile Jefferson along with Jayson Tatum put on a clinic last night at MSG as Duke beat Florida by a score of 84-74.

Amile Jefferson and Luke Kennard have been the two best players for Duke so far this season.   In my opinion Luke Kennard should be in talks for player of the year.  Luke is a deadly shooter and has been on fire this season.

This team is a work in progress as injured players come back in the rotation for Duke.  When this team is 100% healthy... the sky is the limit!

The key will be how this team works together with so much talent.   Just looking back at last night was a great example.   Not everybody is going to be the guy who puts 20+ points up in a game.    Grayson was having an off night with his shooting.  However, Grayson Allen had 8 assists.  You could see Grayson feeding the ball to Luke Kennard who was on fire.  Last night was a great win for Duke.  Some players were having great shooting nights... some were dishing the ball to their teammates.   If this team continues to work so well together the sky will be the limit when everybody is healthy.   I look forward to seeing this team gel together as the season continues.

It has been a while since I have updated this blog.   As always head over to www.dukereport.com for the latest on Duke basketball and football.  CTC is exactly a month away from today (October 22nd)!   You can feel the excitement among Duke fans on social media as this upcoming Duke team has the potential to go a long way in March Madness.

The link below will take you to my recent article for Duke Report as I talk about what I see as the Top 10 Duke basketball games for the 2016-2017 season.  Did I miss a game?  Let us know in the comments section on the Duke Report website.

Check out my other somewhat recent article Duke "Weekend Warrior" Fan Experience (link below).   My small business has taught me how to look at a schedule and plan out weeks in advance.  I take that and applied it to the Duke basketball and football schedule and found one weekend that sticks out to me as a jam packed Duke weekend.  Two basketball games and one football game in a weekend = good times for Duke fans!
Duke "Weekend Warrior" Fan Experience
There was another article back over at Duke Report I wrote back in June... ( I know... I have been slacking on updating my blog here)... about Duke football season tickets.   You can read it at the link below.    If you didn't buy season tickets... you can still buy individual game tickets at GoDuke.com   With teams like Baylor and possibly Florida State on the 2017 home games football schedule... Duke fans may want to look at locking in to season tickets when the time comes around.
Get ready for the 2016 Duke football season
Duke football is currently has a record of 1-2 and head to Notre Dame for a tough game this weekend.  Here's to hoping Duke can get the win.

Duke is already into the football season and Duke basketball will be starting a month from today with Countdown to Crazyness.   Duke fans have a lot to look forward to.   GO DUKE!  #Sighton6

"Run Wake Forest Run"...

Shout out to the Cameron Crazy for the cool sign in the grad section that said the above statement.
Duke vs. Wake Forest was the 7th game I have been to this season.  This Duke team has heart!

K met with the students the night before the Wake game and you can tell it paid off.   I heard others say that the Wake game was the best yet for the Cameron Crazies.

All Duke fans attending a game at Duke should get there early to take in the sites.   The Duke Chapel is one to check out.

Coach K was very animated in the game.  At one point he took his jacket off.  Everybody knows when the jacket comes off... it's about to go down!

Duke ended up getting the win against Wake Tuesday night.  Harry Giles was in attendance for the game.  At one point in the game, the Cameron Crazies asked Giles to "sit with us."  Giles stood up and walked over to section 17 and watched the rest of the game with the Cameron Crazies.

Grayson Allen... The Villain "THE MEDIA"  needs...

2/26/2016

Picture
Scroll through any social media sites or sports networks today and you will see many talking about "the trip" from the Duke vs. Florida State game last night.  You have several fans saying Grayson should be suspended for the trip.  However they fail to see the  ENTIRE play...

Did these fans pay attention to the the FSU player taking a swing at Grayson Allen in the play?

Did these fans even watch the entire game and see the FSU player and Grayson playing a very physical game?

Look...my point is if the ACC was even considering  suspending  Grayson then they would NEED to suspend the FSU player as well.   Hey... let's be fair right?!

But the media... needs a villain.  The media needs the "bad boy" to talk about.  But let's be real.... I have talked to Grayson many times.  Grayson Allen is a good person.   He has a great personality and is a very likable player.  And I for one don't blame Grayson one bit for sticking up for himself in games when opposing players are hacking, punching and attacking him any way they can in an effort to get Grayson out of his game mode.    Don't let these opposing players of other teams off the hook!   They damn well know Grayson Allen is the "go to" guy for Duke and that's why they attack him.   They can't guard him and they get frustrated.  Grayson is having an amazing season for Duke.

Maybe the media needs a wake up  call and focus on the big picture of that both guys could be at fault...hmmm...  Imagine a well rounded and balanced media... lol!

But that will never happen.   As with the media, social media, fans and pretty much 99% of the word population.... everybody needs a villain in their life.   It breaks down to basic psychology.  It's funny that billions of stars can exist in the universe in peace... but not human life.  People need a hero and they need a villain in their life to talk about.   And guess what... this all rolls over into the sports world too.  Sports needs that "bad boy" to talk about.

Well... I guess the athletic white boy at Duke will be the college basketball villain.  Imagine that lol!   Duke fans have been down this path before... with Redick, with Laettner and now with Grayson Allen.

As a Duke fan myself, I welcome that path.  I have said  this many times before, and I will say it again.   If Duke is hated and being talked about..it's a good thing.  It means Duke is relevant in the college basketball world!   It's the day Duke is not hated and not talked about is when I will start to worry.

But as we can see with the sports channels, media, and social media... that day is not happening anytime soon.

GO DUKE!
