Shout out to Coach K...dude is going to shatter the 1,000 wins level in next few days! He will continue banking the wins as the all time winningest coach in D1 basketball. A record that will not be broken in my lifetime, your lifetime, your kids lifetime, and your kids kids lifetime! #Coach1K There are a lot of good articles from media sites such as Duke Blue Planet, ESPN, CBS, Duke Report, etc.... this week on Coach K. Below is a list of some of the articles. Lets enjoy this epic time as Duke fans. Go Duke! #CoachK1K *** will update this blog as more articles are published*** LINKS ^^^ OK...come on ESPN... you can't have a Top 10 Duke team list and leave off the 2010 National Championship team! The 2010 team is one of K's best coached teams!
"Duke is Back".... That's an interesting headline for me to use. Duke was undefeated and at #2 in the polls until their recent road loss at NC State. After that game I wasn't worried. Duke wasn't going undefeated in the ACC. Nobody will go undefeated in the ACC this year and yes... that includes UVA! However after the beat down Miami gave Duke to end the nation longest home win streak of 41 games...I was worried. What bothered me the most was the comments from Miami player Angel Rodriguez after the game. "We felt like it was a great match up, and they were going to allow us what we wanted to do." That statement bothered me. It felt like he was laying out the blueprint to beat Duke. If a team has fast guards, it really helped. I tried to spin the back to back losses in a positive way. I thought... Well...better to hit the wall hard in January than March! January forgives and gives you February 2 regroup.. March never forgives! Fans all over the message boards were wondering if changes were going to be made by the Duke staff. If you have followed Duke Basketball over the years, you know K rarely ever plays zone. Things were not looking good for Duke going to the Yum Center to play Louisville this past Saturday. Saturday was going to be a start of a new season! Then came Saturday... I was thinking...Let's turn this ship back in the right direction! #GoDuke #BeatTheCards #DukevsUL... The time was now! As the tipoff was under way... the unthinkable happened... K was playing ZONE on defense! This sent fans, and even the media into shock across the nation...as we saw an energized Duke team playing in what could have been a hostile road environment...but Duke calmed the storm. Duke ended up beating Louisville by a score of 63-52. Duke was back! Social media had it's say on the zone defense and the Duke win. One of my favorite tweets was by Jay Bilas "@JayBilas In one fell swoop, Coach K morphs into Jim Boeheim. After a full game of zone defense, he shall now be known as "Coach K-heim."
After Duke pulled off the win at Louisville I was thinking... Biggest winner today? Not the fans..not the players.. But Coach K for adapting to use #zone #GoDuke My other thoughts were... At times...the thing you resist the most..could become your greatest ally... Shout out to Coach K for adapting to use #zone Changes were made and Duke was now back sailing in the right direction. Yesterday Duke hosted Pitt at home and pulled off the win by a score of 79-65. To quote one fan's poster at the game... "Just a #Pitt stop on the way to 1000!" #999 #GoDuke #Coach1K Duke now has a 5 day break before travelling to New York to play St John's in what could be Coach K's 1000th win. The past week has been a roller coaster ride for Duke fans... with back to back losses followed by the use of zone defense and back to back wins. To sum it all up... It feels like... ORDER HAS BEEN RESTORED. Duke is 1-0 in ACC play and travels tonight to Winston Salem to play Wake Forest in a 9pm start. Duke beat BC last Saturday by a score of 85-62. Pic above I took of the Blue Devil who was on his A game. A couple of times during breaks of game play, the Blue Devil would jump up on the media table to pump of section 17. Since the students were on break, section 17 was a good mix of Cameron Crazies and fans. After the game... I had a little fun... Yeah my heart bleeds Duke Blue! This Duke team is fun to watch! Now that ACC play has started, we are getting close to the 1/2 way mark of the season. Okafor in my opinion has easily played his way into the #1 NBA draft pick. If Winslow keeps playing the way he is... well... What I'm getting at is Duke fans need to enjoy this ride and this season while it last! This is a special team! The freshman are young but very mature. They know to take the season game by game or ... Keep the train rolling... The link below will take you my recent talk with Jahil Okafor after the Boston College win. I left Cameron Indoor Saturday night realizing even more what a great team we have... a great coach we have... ( who will hit the 1,000 wins mark very soon!).. and a great facility we have! (Cameron Indoor Stadium turned 75 years old this week) Let's keep the train rolling and Beat Wake! The 2010 banner in the pic below would look real good with another banner to its right! :)
Here's to hoping all Duke fans had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Duke basketball finished out the year yesterday 12-0 with a win over Wofford. In those 12 games, Duke has beat Michigan State, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Connecticut. Duke has played some quality out of conference teams. Saturday Duke opens ACC play with Boston College in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 4pm. Follow @DukeReport on Twiiter as I'll be there sending out tweets of the game experience. Duke Football loss to Arizona State in the Sunbowl. It was a disappointing loss. However, Duke fans should hold their heads up! Duke has been to 3 straight bowl games! 5 years ago, nobody would have thought Duke would be in this position. Recent reports have said that Braxton Miller and Jeff Driskel are showing interest in Duke. The stadium is having improvements done in the off season. Duke Football is heading in the right direction! This time of year, people look back on what they are thankful for. From a sports viewpoint, Duke fans have a lot to be thankful for. We have a football team on the rise. We have an undefeated basketball team heading into ACC play who is a fun team to watch. We also have the winningest coach in college basketball in Coach K. In the next few games you will see Coach K hit the 1,000 wins mark. Duke fans have a lot to look forward to. Enjoy the ride 2015 offers! See you Saturday at Cameron! |
